one billion rising

 photo Logo1_zps0035aa96.jpg

Tomorrow is Valentine's day! Yay! It's also the day of One Billion Rising. That thing that's been inescapable of late, from Thandie Newton on Channel 4 News to endless articles and interviews with the founder, Eve Ensler. But if you don't have a sadistic addiction to the news like me you might not know about it. Basically all you need to know is:

One in three women on the planet will be raped or beaten in her lifetime.

And to make a statement against this, internationally, one billion rising want one billion people to rise up against this. On Valentine's day. Tomorrow. So I've had some questions about what "rising" means but they've decided that means dancing (for some reason) but if unlike me, your not really one for dancing not under the influence, or you're like, at work; I think simply talking to people about it is pretty up there for raising awareness. So tell your friends, your boyfriend/girlfriend, tell your boss and your colleagues and the person who sits next to you on the bus or behind you in the queue at Pret. Tell them that (if there are 3 women in the room) that one of you/them statistically is likely to be raped or beaten. Maybe don't like point at someone specifically or anything, but make them realise that it is everyone's problem, it is everyone's fault. That one in three men are raping or beating women* is society's problem and we all need to do something about that. It might not be dancing, but awareness is the start.

(*I don't think that's how statistics work, because it could be the same man raping and beating multiple women, obviously, but like one in three times there's a woman there's someone raping or beating her, so almost*)

shuffling back & hoping no one notices

Changes. Changes.
What do you think? Pattern & everything. It's mainly because I want more writing on the blog & it gets a bit lost in the wider layout. However, the awesome photos hopefully won't stop. Annoyingly I lost the url for the image above, which unforgivable now I've discovered google's search by image feature, well useful for tumblr sourcing.

Anyway this is all basically to explain I've been away because I sort of ran out of knowing how to say things through this blog. It's so easy if you're a fashion blog, or a politics blog, or a design blog or whatever because there's a focus. But I've never really been able to stick to one interest & I don't really want to. I think it's more interesting to appeal to a range of people, right people? People out there who possibly read this blog?

So what have I been doing? Nothing much. Getting pissed off at work. Christmas! Man, Christmas. Was pretty good, I got lots of lovely things & had a pretty good time with the fam. I got a review published in the Runnymede Trust Bulletin. Pretty rad. I made a gender politics section at work. Filled with lovely books about awesome women & written by amazing people. I've found someone to do my next tattoo. I've listened a hell of a lot to Azealia Banks, Angel Haze & um, Marina & the Diamonds. Marina & the Diamonds acoustic covers on youtube are so beautiful. Honestly.

& as for the future? Well of the blog at least I'm gonna start by explaining some of the shit that I've put down the right hand side, because I want you guys to know a bit more about that. & because my friend Poppy said that she thought it would be good to just tell people stuff they need to know, like I do for her. Like... Don't shop in Topshop. Or Amazon is evil. But explain it. So yeah, I'm gonna do some of that because people should know! & then I won't be the only mad person going on about this shit. & do you still wanna see clothes? I'll see if I can do it in a way that doesn't seem taxing like it was before. I'll try harder with the photography I think. I mean I do have an A Level at A in it, so I should've (theoretically) learnt something.

Basically I want this to be something that leads me into something I want to do & putting everything I care about up here seems like the best way to do that. If you know what you wanna see or know from/about me then let me know. & e-mail me, neonpeg@gmail.com. Because some of you guys send me the best e-mails & I've had the best conversations with & I want to know more of you.

Alright? Sweet. So what the fuck have I missed?

Stuff I've been doing. Wearing tactile clothing, velvet leggings & cashmere. The best thing about winter. Painting christmas trees on my nails, inspiration found here. How cute are these? & so easy to do with some strips of sellotape. Awesome. Now I just have to go to work tomorrow & it'll all be chipped to fuck. Oh well. Watching Reggie Watts videos. At first it was mainly just being captivated by his appearance but the accents, the fucking beats and the songs are astounding. Like this guy can sing. & he's funny as hell.

Last couple of weeks have been strange interspersed with lovely. Just weird friend and work stuff then lovely Christmas things. That sounds cryptic but it's more that there's no point bitching about people none of you have heard of all over the internet now is there? I've been thinking about doing sort of "introduction" posts on what I believe on certain subjects & then hopefully from there start writing more about those kind of things & getting a discussion going. In between all the lovely new clothes I have to show you, because I'm rubbish. Like I didn't even post my halloween clothes! I suck. Anyway. Day off love.

Isn't the lemon cushion like the best thing in the world ever? She's made a whole variety of fruit and vegetables as well. Totally need to finally get round to learning to crochet so I can make this amazing shit myself!

So that's it. The end of gift guide week. I hope you found something that at least reminded you of a gift you should get if not a shop where to find it or a gift itself (preferably the iPad, for me yeah?). Or at least enjoyed all the lovely things laid out somewhat thoughtfully!
