This is what I wore yesterday & the photos I took after coming home & going straight to bed. Had a pretty shitty week & I'm officially ill with a mixture of new-people-at-college-bug, coldness & my body saying "STOP" to the excesses of the past few days. I now can't physically get out of bed & am trying to find the sick line for college, why is the website so complicated?

Ill, ill go away.

Hussein Chalayan was born in 1970 in Nicosia, Cyprus. He graduated from Central St Martins in 1993, causing a sensation with his decomposed silk dresses. He went on to dress Björk for her 1995 Post album and tour. In 1999 and 2000, he was named British designer of the year, and in 2005 represented Turkey in the Venice Biennale. He was awarded an MBE in 2006. His installation I Am Sad Leyla is at the Lisson Gallery, London, until 2 October.

When were you happiest?
As a child in Cyprus, in my imaginary, hassle-free world: water came from springs, food from gardens and seas.

What is your greatest fear?
Being a lonely, dependent old person.

What is your earliest memory?
Being confused between Turkish and English.

Photobucket

Which living person do you most admire and why?
One died last year, one a year before that – there hasn't been enough time since to proclaim a new hero.

What is the trait you most deplore in yourself?
I am an idealist, which can be tiring.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
People taking themselves too seriously.

What was your most embarrassing moment?
My mum running after me, just after my first few shows, with stuffed vine leaves and new jumpers.

Photobucket

What is your most treasured possession?
Old family photos and films.

Where would you like to live?
An office in London with a door to a living room in Istanbul, a bathroom in Japan and a garden in Cyprus.

What makes you unhappy?
Nepotism and vulgar use of money.

What would your super power be?
Definitely to be able to fly.

What do you most dislike about your appearance?
My fluctuating belly.

What is your favourite book?
Baudrillard's America.

Photobucket

What would be your fancy dress costume of choice?
A burka, so I can be a detached observer.

What is your guiltiest pleasure?
Food.

What does love feel like?
Romantic love? Positively bad – then it grows and becomes a way of life.

Which words or phrases do you most overuse?
"To be honest…"

What is the worst job you've done?
I ran away from home and had to work in a McDonald's for a month.

What has been your biggest disappointment?
London gives birth to amazing talent but is rubbish at helping maintain it.

Photobucket

When did you last cry, and why?
Watching a documentary on Amish kids spending time in south London.

How often do you have sex?
Regularly.

What is the closest you've come to death?
I fell off a bus at 15 and a car hit my head – I must have gone mad then.

What single thing would improve the quality of your life?
Being able to switch off.

What keeps you awake at night?
Deadlines and financial restrictions.

How would you like to be remembered?
As someone who created bridges between alien worlds.

What is the most important lesson life has taught you?
Not to think that everyone thinks about things the way you do.

Where would you most like to be right now?
On a Greek island, in a taverna on top of a rocky hill.

This
was a dress that I saw on Hel Looks. As my mum is a knitter I showed her the picture as a sort of look-how-awesome-this-is situation & she said she could make it. In fact, she wanted to make it. After taking the picture to her friend in the wool shop they decided cotton/bamboo/wool would work best and to knit on a loop & with HUGE needles. Now I don't understand knitting (I know, bad textiles student) but when you ask me to saw off the end of two HUGE needles and then gaffa tape a piece of aquarium tubing to make a set of circle needles, now that I can do.

It's hard to walk in & I'm teaching my friends to pull threads through after they catch on things, but there's something powerful & yet sort of damsel-in-distress-help-I-can't-walk-here about it. Sort of like wearing DMs. Orders to my mum.

Photobucket

Also I want to sell my Blackmilk Atonomist leggings because they hang there & stare at me crying because I don't wear them enough so I want someone who loves them more to have them. & also I want some liquid leggings but funds are a tad tight after summer. If you're interested I'm thinking say...£30? But I'm open to offers. E-mail me: neonpeg@gmail.com

Sorry this post has taken so long. My friend asked me to guest with his band next week so we've been practicing like crazy & every cover I bring up (Bigmouth Strikes Again, The Smiths or Jezebel, Dizzee Rascal or Jerk It Out, The Caesars) they all hate. & having had my photography teacher tell me, when I confessed about the whole jumping-through-hoops/testing-the-waters thing when applying to University, he said I should just fuck it & start a band. If only I had talent.

I've
got a new colour obsession. So I've had my fun with fawn/well-beige-actually & when I saw a dress in H&M plus this jumper in a perfect shade of well...another tricky colour. I said burnt orange, my mother said red brown and then my friend Jesus instantly named it rust. Perfect.

Photobucket
Unfortunately both the dress & jumper were made out of horrible synthetic things for no apparent reason so I'm still in search of the perfect garment in the perfect shade of rust. Any suggestions?

Photobucket

& to end on a completely different note with, uhr, Spring. This is what I would like to be wearing, especially that one in the middle, which Jay described as Flower Girl Whore. He should go into fashion journalism no?

Thank you number 93.
It kills me there are 93 people who give a shit what I put on here.
I LOVE YOU ALL.

I made both collage's myself from images on Style.com. The first are from A/W 2010 collections, mostly New York designers. Please credit me if you want to use them!

THERINGONMYFINGERSLIPSTOTHEGROUNDAGIFTTOTHEGUTTER

As prompted by the wonderful M (whose blog you should check out for sure) & because I don't think I've done one for the one's I wear now. Here is a ring post, because I basically wear the same rings everyday with one or two exceptions or substitutions when I'm feeling adventurous.

Photobucket

1. Silver Bar
I wanted a plain 2 finger ring for ages about a year or so ago & couldn't find one that wasn't stupidly expensive. So I went to the ring man (the guy who works in a ring shop near me) & we worked on the drawing & he made this for me.

2. Gold 'Obey' Ring
This is sort of an in joke with me & my boyfriend (eugh I hate that word) because I subconsciously become more feminine the longer we're together...which is never very long. & we have long conversations about feminism. Ah how boring do we sound?

3. Big Ass Citrine Ring
This is my newest edition, the result of an alchemy request on etsy. Man I love etsy. I wanted something along the lines of a Billy Bride ring & in something at the beginning of the colour spectrum. This is absolutely perfect & although in some situations (vending machines, looking in my bag) the way it protrudes is a tiny bit debilitating, it's beautiful & that's the most important thing!

4. Knuckle-ish Ring
So he also bought me this ring in Paris from a shop called Metal Pontu's, which is a gorgeous shop. I'd been looking for something for this finger for a while & they had all these lovely copper pieces but none of them were quite right, but I kept trying on this ring. Anyway we left with me feeling frustrated & then the next day he surprised me with it... I love the way it exposes my kind of chubby finger with such an elegant shape, & the contrast with the other 2 rings.

5. Sugar Skull Ring
Can it be a sugar skull if it's not in colour? Eugh, so yes this is actually his ring. Which I stole from him before we were properly together...& after many a thought on which way round to wear it I settled on facing outwards. & he's said I can keep it now as, "Protection"

6. Lapis Ring
I was lucky enough to tag along with my mum to South Korea about...geez 2 years ago? It was an amazing trip, & the people were lovely even though I was a tall, pale ginger person in a small Asian population & basically stuck out like a sore thumb. We spotted this lapis stone in a shop near where we were staying & got it for some ridiculously low price but managed to understand that it originally came from Afghanistan. But it was perfectly cut in the oval & I love that it has this wonderful fracture running down the middle of it, because I have a thing for imperfection. So when we got back to Bristol my mum got the ring man to set it in silver for my 16th(? Maybe 17th) birthday & it's not really left my finger since.

7. Odd Green Ring
Fresh off the coach from London after seeing him again, I was meant to be meeting my friend but she was late. So I wondered up to the book shops on Park Row & bought too many books & then popped into the Silver Shop after having a double take on a multi layered loop ring that I thought might be long enough for the type of ring I wanted. I went in & she proceeded to get out every single remotely long ring she had, but when I saw the stone in this one I fell in love. I've never seen anything this colour before & she wasn't sure what stone it was (something like weirdly decayed Aquamarine) but it was so unusual. So I spent the last £30 I had in the world on it & added it straight to my collection.

What's your favorite piece of jewelry?

So remember this post? Well here is the outfit I promised.

Culottes from a vintage shop in Glasgow & jumper from the Scottish shop in Bath. Very fun shouldering old ladies out the way as things got frantic in the sale & they tutted at my short skirt.

New ring, new ring. I'm sorry M, I will do a ring post. I will I promise.

Apologies on the delay in postage. I went back to college last week & remembered how much I hate art lessons... It sounds wanky but I find it hard to be creative at allotted times 3 times a week. I've also been busy staring mournfully out of my bedroom window watching the rain destroy my flowers. Oh & also reading The Subversive Stitch & trying to consider my future education-or-not plans.

The future freaks me out.

PPS. It's my half birthday today. Woooooo! 18 1/2 exactly. How oddly observed of Mr Jay.
